A Little Back Story . . .

It was 2016, shortly after our daughter married, and Troy and I had officially become empty nesters. I had started traveling with him to some of his construction projects, and that year I flew to Honolulu, Hawaii, to join him while he was part of the development team rebuilding the International Market Place.

Whenever we traveled, we loved finding a local church community where we could connect with like-minded people. We have always felt that God has given us much to share, and we simply enjoyed leaning in, getting to know people, and encouraging others along the way.

While in Honolulu, we found a wonderful church called Pearlside Church. Norman Nakanishi is the founding and expansion pastor, a gifted linguist and communicator. It happened to be the week of the church’s revival, called Ignite.

Troy had shared his testimony with Pastor Norman, and Pastor Norman felt it would be a meaningful way to begin the revival.

Troy had shared his story in churches before, but this was the first time his testimony would actually be captured on video.

We had no idea then what a gift that recording would become.

What was shared with one church in Hawaii that evening could now be shared again and again, with people we may never have the opportunity to sit down with personally.

As you begin the video, Pastor Norman speaks for the first several minutes. Don’t skip over him—he truly is a feast for the ears, and his words beautifully set the stage for Troy’s story.

There is something else that makes this recording especially meaningful to us. Until this night, Troy’s parents had never heard him publicly tell this part of his story. Even today, it remains something very difficult for them to talk about.

So this video is more than simply a recording of a testimony from 2016.

It captured a story we never knew we would one day be so grateful to have—and one we now have the privilege of sharing with you.
