My Story

I never thought twice about what I wanted to do growing up. Ever since I was a little girl all I wanted to do was to "fix hair". I had visions of someday having moms bring their little girls to me to fix their hair in braids and pig tails. I had no idea how big the beauty industry was at that time. My dream obvioulsy matched my skill level as a child.

As soon as I graduated from high school, I could not get to beauty school fast enough. I won my first and "1st place" trophy ever in beauty school through a hair competition against other beauty colleges.

Soon after I graduated, I took some make-up classes and integrated a make-up line into my business, thrilled I could give my clients a complete new look. I found myself passionate in teaching women how to enhance their features. I soon began to set up classes in banks during lunch hours and taught as a guest artist in secretarial schools.

I worked very passionately over 20 years. My clients were like family and eventually expressed their desire for help in other areas like home decor. I started an interior decorating business in the midst of a busy beauty career, decorating homes and offices for my clientel upon their request. I loved creating fresh looks for the home and work place, there is such a common thread. Looking ones best and feeling good about your work and living space is all effected by line design and color. Lines (hair styles & furniture placement) are all about balance and color creates an emotional reponse in everything.

Life was great until I began dropping things and experiencing some health issues. I woke up one day out of breath with a tingly left numb hand. After a hosptial visit, 4 hours later I was diagnosed with extremely damaged nerves in both of my arms.

The medical advice I received was to quit my career immediately or I would loose the use of my arms forever. My passion was taken away over night. I felt like I may have well lost the use of my arms completely if I no longer could do what I loved.

I believe that everything happens for a reason. It took some time dealing with the loss of my passion. In due time I began to get excited about my new journey. Instead of focusing on making people and places more eye appealing I became more introspective and focused on what drives people. I learned that so many people though they may be very good at what they do, are not fulfilled because there is no passion just an everyday routine to survive.

Very soon after, 911 threw our country into a big survival crisis. Loss of jobs, businesses shutting down, investments lost in the financial markets and more bankrupcies were filed more than ever at one time in our counntry. We were one of them. My husband and I have always been self-employed and again lost our other business overnight.

We learned through this crisis that even though our income the way we always knew it had come to a hault, the knowledge that we had about our industries was not taken away. Re-inventing ourselves and restructuring the way we do business was what we both had to do. We are both learners and love to work smart, not hard, though we still work very hard, we work hard these days at being smarter!

I missed the one-on-one connection with my clients after I could no longer use my arms. After much rest and focusing on my health I regained the full use without pain again, but could still no longer go back to the same exact way I used to do things. I discovered email and started connecting with women and learned that I could teach and inspire with my words alone. My email recipients encouraged me to write more at length in the form of a book. They wanted more inspiring words than just my emails and challenged me to publish a book. I was not convinced that this was the route for me, but after sitting down quietly long enough I eventually completed a book that published in 2006.

Daily Make-up with the Master

Through my book came radio and TV interviews and more doors began to open. I had started a product broker business that gave me a vehicle to generate more income and help others do the same. The root of my passion was always to serve and provide solutions for specific needs. Now I help others by teaching them what I have learned so that they are not caught off guard if they could not do what they are currently doing anymore, or do not have a retirement in place.

I am now a business coach for entrepreneurs. I love the beauty industry and have created meaningful ways to teach and inspire individuals for self improvement. I teach make-up classes, product knowledge and life skills through marketing. Life is . . . a journey. Nothing we go through is ever a waste, unless you refuse to embrace it, and see what lessons there are in the midst of it to eventually help others.

I could not help the people I have helped if I were still doing what I had always done. I am grateful for what I have been through because now I can connect with you. Life to me has more purpose when my vision is much bigger than myself.
